It's getting cooler!

Although some people are still tirelessly trying to (with wearing shorts), I guess there's no point in denying any longer that....

FALL finally reached New Orleans!

today morning on campus

Halloweekend!

Halloween in New Orleans is a big party lasting for over 6 days. Starting already by the end of September, lots of people carve pumpkins and decorate their houses creepily. Yesterday we dressed up and went to Bourbon Street and later to Frenchmen Street, where big Halloween parties are taking place. The streets were crowded with crazy dressed-up people partying really hard, and yes, the people here take their costumes very seriously ;)

Homecoming!

The last weekend was Homecoming weekend here at Tulane university. I have to admit, I had no idea was homecoming is about and wasn’t aware of its importance!

Homecoming is an annual tradition at American universities to welcome back alumnis (=former students) and usually this is celebrated with some cheerful events going on, for both alumnis and current students.

So Saturday there was a big Tulane homecoming event on Champions Square which is next to Luisiana Superdome, a large sports arena in the business district of New Orleans (Superdome is the arena where Superbowl mostly takes place and also where people were evacuated during hurricane Katrina). The party started in the morning already with music and free food and drinks. It was such a nice and sunny day! Then, in the early afternoon, Tulane’s football team played in Superdome against Memphis and we went in to watch it. Interesting, but unfortunately I don’t know any football rules, so mostly, we were just watching the fans screaming and cheerleader dancing haha!

Unfortunately, I have some problems with the memory card of my camera right now so I can only show you a few pictures that Mirta took but I will hopefully be able to upload more soon!

bye Big Apple, hey Big Easy

Hey cuties, I wanna show you some more pictures of our New York Trip! Finally I made it back to New Orleans and I'm really happy to be back! New York was great and we had lots of fun but the city kind of feels too busy for my taste. Additionally, wonderful sunshine and 30 degrees were already expecting us in New Orleans, oh yeah! :)

New York!!!

Yesterday morning Maria, Santiago and me arrived in New York where we will stay until Sunday.  We have booked a hotel in Manhattan on the Upper West Side. We already went to see the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, 5th Avenue, Times Square, Central Park, Wallstreet and the Statue of Liberty. I can’t believe I’m here, it’s so impressive!  This city really never sleeps!  The shops are so cool! However I also have to say, after growing up on the countryside, living in nice Vienna and getting used to this awesome easiness in New Orleans, New York seems so hectic and packed!  And 18° is definitely too cold I am freezing here haha… (sorry!)

the birthplace of jazz...

Tonight, the International Office of Tulane hosted a trip to Preservation Hall, a legendary performance hall of jazz.  Before that we went to Mothers restaurant in the French Quarter for dinner which is famous for its Po Boy sandwiches.

Preservation hall turned out to be a simple, cramped, old and tiny. No food, no drinks, it’s nothing fancy BUT it’s all about the music… And it's great, very authentic! A very special place, I enjoyed it a lot!

sorry I liked the bus ;)

bread pudding (dessert)... so delicious!

yummy!!

there are indeed quite a lot of eccentric people in nola haha
